Bryce Canyon: Get Below the Rim
The overlooks are incredible. Walking down among the hoodoos is what made Bryce unforgettable.

If you have only 24 hours, still go. Bryce is compact enough to combine sunset, stars, sunrise, a below-rim hike and the scenic drive.
The hike that matters
We combined the Navajo Loop and Queen’s Garden area and spent time wandering down among the hoodoos; we believe we also added Peekaboo. The exact combination matters less than the principle: do not see Bryce only from the rim. Queen’s Garden + Navajo gives you the experience; adding Peekaboo creates a much bigger hiking day.
Sunrise, sunset and stars
Plan for all three if you can. Years later, a ranger-led night-sky program where the ranger used a laser pointer to guide us across the sky is still one of our strongest Bryce memories.
Scenic drive + Bristlecone Loop
We drove to Rainbow Point, stopped at the overlooks and walked the one-mile Bristlecone Loop toward Yovimpa Point through the high-elevation forest. Nice—but nothing compared with hiking into the amphitheater.
Mossy Cave
A fun add-on: a short trail with water and a waterfall against the fiery landscape. Worth fitting in, but not at the expense of a below-rim hike.
