Our approach
We share firsthand hiking guides, active itineraries and practical trip-planning advice. The goal is not to do the hardest thing simply because it is hard - it is to find the experiences where the payoff justifies the effort.
There are far more adventures out there than we could ever fit into a lifetime. We know there are wonderful experiences we’ve missed, and we can’t reasonably do everything. These guides reflect what we’ve explored so far, with plenty of room to keep discovering.

We actually do the trips
Our guides start with places we have visited and experiences we have actually had. We tell you what worked, what surprised us, where logistics mattered and what we would change.
Payoff matters more than mileage
A long hike is not automatically a better hike. We care about the experience: scenery, variety, logistics, crowds and whether the effort earns the payoff.
We tell you what we’d skip
Not every stop deserves your limited vacation time. “Worth It?” is part of the editorial standard, not just a section of the site.
Firsthand experience and current logistics are different things. When permits, closures, transportation or regulations matter, we check current planning information and distinguish it from what happened on our own trip. Conditions can change, so time-sensitive details should always be verified before travel.

Our travel guides are built from firsthand trips, hikes and activities. We separate what we personally experienced from logistics that can change, such as permits, transportation, closures and prices.
When a guide says “Firsthand guide,” the opinions and effort-versus-reward verdict come from our own experience. A “Last reviewed” date means we have revisited the page for clarity and current planning information; travelers should still verify time-sensitive details with the official provider or land manager before a trip.
