Parker Ridge: Is It Worth the Hike?
A short, steady climb with an enormous Saskatchewan Glacier payoff.

The climb is real—but not that long
The trail starts by gaining elevation on switchbacks. There are also some steps on the way up that felt completely unnecessary to us—they somehow make sections of the climb feel harder rather than easier. Still, this is not an enormous hike. Get through the initial climb and the payoff comes quickly.

Once you reach the ridge, do both sides
This is the part we would tell people not to miss. We went to the right first and climbed higher, basically getting the remaining elevation out of the way while we still had the energy. The views from up there were amazing.
It was also extremely windy at the top. There are a couple of small sheltered spots, and people were tucked into them enjoying snacks out of the wind. Bring a layer even if it feels comfortable at the trailhead.
Then come back and head left
After the higher viewpoint, we came back down and headed to the left. Do not skip this side. You get another incredible perspective of Saskatchewan Glacier along with views down toward the river below. The two sides feel different enough that we thought both were absolutely worth doing.

How far should you keep going?
Once you have explored both main glacier-view areas, you do not need to keep extending the hike just because the trail continues. We went roughly another third of a mile beyond the viewpoints and did not think that extra section added much. Spend your time enjoying the ridge instead.

Our verdict
Parker Ridge was one of the top hikes of our trip. There are hikes where you work for hours for one great viewpoint. This is almost the opposite: after a relatively manageable climb, you get spectacular glacier, mountain and river views in multiple directions. The views-to-effort ratio is exceptional.
